ANKARA - Terrorism Victims' Solidarity and Cooperation Association
Chairman Mehmet Alptekin said on Sunday that they condemned those who
had expended efforts for abolition of death penalty, and broadcasting
and education in mother tongue under the European Union (EU) reform
package.
[03] TENDER FOR CONSTRUCTION OF ISTANBUL STRAIT RAIL TUBE TUNNEL
PROJECT OPENED
ANKARA - The tender for construction of Istanbul Strait rail tube
tunnel called ''Marmaray'' and Gebze-Halkali surface metro system was
opened after approval by the Japan finance organization Japan Bank for
International Cooperation (JBIC).

IMPORTANT FOR TURKEY
ISTANBUL - State Minister Kemal Dervis for Economy said on Sunday,
''these Europe laws passed by the parliament are very important for
Turkey, all of us, our future and children.''

Now, Turkey expects the European Union (EU) to accept its full
membership as soon as possible.''

ANKARA - The highest rate of pecuniary realization in last four years
was achieved in public investments in first three months of 2002 with
an 8.4 percent realization.
[12] NUMBER OF MOTOR VEHICLES INCREASES BY 391.2 PERCENT IN LAST 20
YEARS
ANKARA - Number of motor vehicles increased 391.2 percent from 1
million 502 thousand 370 to 7 million 379 thousand 499 between 1982 and
2002.
[13] KAYSERI EXPORTS USD 29.6 MILLION OF GOODS TO 79 COUNTRIES
KAYSERI - Central province of Kayseri exported 29 million 653 thousand
U.S. dollars of goods to 79 countries in June of 2002.
[14] YSK SETS OUTLINES OF ELECTION SCHEDULE
ANKARA - The Higher Board of Elections (YSK) set outlines of schedule
of the early elections to be held on November 3, 2002. The
beginning date of the parliamentary elections was set as August 7.
[15] TURK: ''ANNULMENT OF DEATH PENALTY IS AN ARRANGEMENT MADE TO
BROADEN FREEDOMS''
ANKARA - Justice Minister Hikmet Sami Turk said on Saturday,
''annulment of death penalty, and broadcasting and education in mother
tongue are the arrangements made with the aim of broadening freedoms.
No one should think that these arrangements will jeopardize national
integrity and unitary structure of the state. We have taken necessary
measures to prevent them.''
[16] BAHCELI: ''WE WILL APPLY TO CONSTITUTIONAL COURT''
KAYSERI - State Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Nationalist
Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli said on Saturday, ''I asked
my friends to carry out preparatory works on filing a lawsuit at the
Constitutional Court for annulment of articles envisaging abolition of
death penalty, and broadcasting and education in mother tongue.''

ANKARA - Treasury will hold an auction on Tuesday, August 6 to sell
273-day bonds.
