[01] CEM SAYS ADOPTION OF EU REFORM PACKAGE BRINGS NEW OPPORTUNITY IN
FRONT OF TURKEY
ANKARA - New Turkey Party (YTP) leader Ismail Cem said on Saturday that
adoption of the European Union (EU) reform package brought a new
opportunity in front of Turkey regarding the issue of accelerating EU
membership process and opening accession negotiations.

ANKARA - The State Institute of Statistics (DIE) announced on Saturday
that annual inflation rate in July of 2002 was 45.9 percent in
wholesale prices and 41.3 percent in consumer prices.
[03] EU COMMISSION WELCOMES ADOPTION OF REFORM PACKAGE
ANKARA - The European Union (EU) Commission welcomed adoption of the
third European Union (EU) Reform Package by the Turkish Parliament on
Saturday as an important signal of the determination of the majority of
Turkey's political leaders towards further alignment to the values and
standards of the EU.

ANKARA - The State Institute of Statistics (DIE) announced on Saturday
that wholesale prices increased by 2.7 percent and consumer prices rose
by 1.4 percent in July of 2002 compared to prices in June of 2002.
[05] EXPORTS FROM AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR INCREASE BY 11 PERCENT
BURSA - The exports from the automotive sector in the first seven
months of 2002 increased 11 percent to 2 billion 529 million U.S.
dollars.
[06] TSK'S NEW COMMANDERS APPOINTED
ANKARA - New commanders of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) as of August
30, 2002, were appointed under the decisions taken at the Higher
Military Board (YAS) regular meetings held under the chairmanship of
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit between July 31 and August 3.
[07] A TOTAL OF 14 THOUSAND MOTOR VEHICLES REGISTERED IN MAY
ANKARA - A total of 14 thousand 393 motor vehicles were registered in
May of 2002.

ANKARA - Turkey will make its participation in the European Union's
(EU) Sixth Framework Programme in the scientific field official by
signing the Memorandum of Understanding on October 23, 2002 in
Brussels.
[09] DERVIS SAYS ADOPTION OF EU REFORMS PACKAGE IS VERY PLEASING
ANKARA - State Minister Kemal Dervis said on Saturday that adoption of
the bills package on adjustment with the European Union (EU) was ''very
pleasing''.
[10] DECISIONS OF YAS ANNOUNCED GENERAL STAFF CHIEF KIVRIKOGLU RETIRES
ANKARA - Decisions taken at the regular meetings of the Higher Military
Board (YAS) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit
between July 31 and August 3, were announced on Saturday after approval
of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.

ANKARA - General Hilmi Ozkok who has been appointed as the new chief of
General Staff at the regular meetings of the Higher Military Board
(YAS) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit between
July 31 and August 3, was born in Turgutlu township of western province
of Manisa in 1940.

ANKARA - World Bank delegation will visit the Association of Turkish
Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) on Monday.
[13] EU ADJUSTMENT BILL ENACTED (2)
ANKARA - Capital punishment was lifted except for the ''crimes
committed in times of war and situations of imminent war'' under the
European Union (EU) adjustment bill that was enacted by Parliamentary
General Assembly on Saturday.
[14] BAHADIR OF TURKEY WINS GOLD MEDAL IN INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS
OLYMPIAD
IZMIR - Private Yamanlar High Schools Director General Barbaros
Kocakurt said on Saturday that their student Selim Bahadir won gold
medal in the International Mathematics Olympiad.

ANKARA - Prof. Dr. Ihsan Dogramaci , former chairman of the Higher
Board of Education (YOK), and Prince Hasan bin Talal of Jordan
