TURKEY IS NOT A MEMBER''
LEFKOSA - Foreign Affairs and Defense Minister Tahsin Ertugruloglu of
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Monday, ''even after
a possible compromise in Cyprus, Cyprus cannot become a member of a
union to which Turkey is not a member by ignoring Turkey's rights and
responsibilities stemming from international agreements.''

[10] MHP'S PROPOSAL TO HOLD EARLY ELECTIONS ON NOVEMBER 3, TRANSFERRED
TO RELEVANT PARLIAMENTARY COMISSIONS
ANKARA - The Parliamentary General Assembly decided to transfer
proposal of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) to hold early
elections on November 3, 2002, and proposal of the Motherland Party
(ANAP) and the Felicity Party (SP) about the European Union (EU)
adjustment laws to the relevant commissions.

ANKARA - New Turkey Party (YTP) leader Ismail Cem said on Monday that
they fully supported the adjustment laws with the European Union (EU)
and the early elections.

ANKARA - The parliament convened in an extraordinary session at 2.00
p.m. on Monday upon calls of MHP, ANAP and SP.

impacts not only in economic and social lives, but also in our regime
and political structure. If the Justice and Development Party (AK
Party) and the People's Democracy Party (HADEP) are given opportunity
in a haste early elections, extremely serious drawbacks can emerge in
regard to our regime.''

ANKARA - Economic Programme of Pre-accession Period to the European
Union (EU) on which State Planning Organization (DPT) works is expected

ANKARA - Prime Minister and Democratic Left Party (DSP) leader Bulent
Ecevit said on Monday, ''during today's extraordinary meeting of the
parliament, the DSP should stress that it is opposed to the early
elections. However, the DSP will pay careful attention not to damage
Turkey, and not to hamper our relations with the European Union (EU).''
