[01] Commission clears joint control of Ormecon Chemie
The European Commission has granted clearance under the Merger Regulation
to plans by Future Capital AG (Germany), Canada's CDPQ, SAM Holding AG
(Switzerland) and Zipperling-Kessler GmbH & Co. KG to acquire joint control
of Ormecon Chemie GmbH & Co. KG. Ormecon is currently solely controlled by
Zipperling. (The deal, notified on 3 January 2003, was examined under a
simplified review procedure)
[02] Commission clears automotive components JV between Emerson Electric
and Dana
The European Commission has granted regulatory clearance under the Merger
Regulation to an automotive components joint venture between Emerson
Electric Co. (USA) and Dana Corporation (USA). (The proposed joint venture
called Dana Emerson Actuator Systems LLC, which was notified on 3 January
2003, was examined under a simplified review procedure)
[03] Commission provides € 1.7 million for biodiversity conservation in
Central Africa
The European Commission and the Gabon Ministry for Development Planning and
Programming have agreed a project on biodiversity conservation which will
focus on animal species specially associated with Central Africa. The total
cost of the project is €2.3 million, of which the Commission will
contribute €1.7 million. The project will add to scientists' knowledge of
the region's most characteristic animals -- forest elephants, gorillas,
turtles and whales. Specific studies will be made of the demographic
structure and population dynamics of these species, their current
conservation status and the reasons behind their geographical distribution.
The conservation of Central Africa's biodiversity is not only of
international ecological importance, but also offers a potential source of
income through the development of ecotourism.
[04] La Commission octroie €4,41 millions pour la formation dans la
protection des forêts tropicales en Afrique centrale
La Commission européenne et le ministre de la Planification et de la
Programmation du Développement du Gabon ont signé le 20 décembre 2002 un
accord sur l'appui à la formation dans le secteur de la gestion des forêts
du Bassin du Congo d'une valeur de €4,41 millions sur quatre années. Ce
projet vise à renforcer les capacités de deux institutions de formation de
cadres en charge de la gestion des ressources naturelles en Afrique
Centrale : l'ENEF au Gabon et l'ERAIFT en République Démocratique du Congo.
Il apportera une assistance technique et des moyens pour réaliser certains
investissements nécessaires, un appui au personnel et au fonctionnement des
deux écoles, dans le domaine de la gestion de la scolarité, de la
programmation et du contenu des formations et de la gestion du corps
enseignant.
[05] António Vitorino et Luc Frieden à la présentation technique d'Eurodac
(10/02, Luxembourg)
Le ministre luxembourgeois de la Justice, Luc Frieden, et le commissaire
européen chargé de la Justice et des Affaires intérieures, António Vitorino,
présenteront le lundi 10 février à Luxembourg Eurodac, le système
automatisé d'identification d'empreintes digitales des demandeurs d'asile
installé depuis le 15 janvier au Grand Duché du Luxembourg.
