[01] Commission gives go-ahead to the joint venture between Hewlett-Packard
and Philips
The European Commission has decided to give the go-ahead to the joint
venture between the US company Hewlett-Packard and the Dutch company
Philips. The joint venture company - JV B.V. - will develop, manufacture
and sell LED (light emitting diode) based components for lighting products
on a worldwide basis. The joint venture does not give rise to any addition
of market shares for the parties.
[02] Commission authorizes joint venture of DBV-Winterthur and Gothaer
Versicherungen
The European Commission has decided to authorize the proposed joint venture
between Deutsche Beamten Lebensversicherung AG - belonging to the german
Group DBV-Winterthur - and the german Gothaer Lebensversicherung A.G. The
joint venture, Gothaer Pensions-Management GmbH, offers the management of
company pensions for other enterprises in Germany.
[03] Commission clears TV joint venture of CLT-UFA and Universal in Poland
The European Commission has decided to give green light to the creation of
RTL 7, a joint venture of the European media group CLT-UFA and the US media
company Universal, a subsidiary of Seagram. RTL 7 will broadcast a general
entertainment programming television service via cable and satellite in
Poland in the Polish language.
[04] Union de Myanmar (Birmanie): proposition de retrait du bénéfice du SPG
pour les produits agricoles
La Commission européenne a adopté aujourd'hui une proposition de règlement
du Conseil retirant le bénéfice du schéma communautaire de préférences
généralisées (SPG) dans le secteur agricole à l'Union de Myanmar. Cette
proposition complète celle adoptée par la Commission le 18 décembre 1996
concernant les produits industriels, faisant suite à la conclusion d'une
enquête menée par la Commission sur des pratiques de travail forcé dans ce
pays. La Commission propose que ces mesures restent en vigueur jusqu'à ce
que les pratiques de travail forcé soient abolies.
