  • [01] Operation ECHO-FLIGHT extended in East and Central Africa

    Operation ECHO-Flight, which enables humanitarian aid to be flown into crisis-stricken areas of Somalia, southern Sudan and Uganda is being extended for six months until end-January 1997.

    [02] Somalia: Commission clears humanitarian aid worth ECU 1.9 million

    The European Commission has cleared humanitarian aid worth ECU 1.9 million for victims of chronic faction-fighting in Somalia. The aid, channelled via the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO), will enable international non-governmental organisations from Belgium, Spain, Austria and France to carry out practical work in the field over the next eight months.

    [03] Colombie: aide humanitaire de l'Union européenne aux victimes de la violence

    La Commission européenne a approuvé l'envoi d'une aide humanitaire globale d'une valeur d'un million d'Ecus destinée aux victimes de la violence en Colombie. Cette aide sera acheminée par l'intermédiaire de l'Office Humanitaire de la Communauté Européenne (ECHO). Elle permettra aux sociétés de la Croix-Rouge de France et d'Espagne ainsi qu'à Diakonia, une organisation non gouvernementale suédoise, de réaliser des projets au cours des six prochains mois. Jusqu'à un million de personnes devraient en bénéficier.

    [04] La Commission débloque une aide alimentaire d'urgence pour les réfugiés et les personnes déplacées

    La Commission européenne a débloqué un train de mesures d'aide alimentaire d'urgence d'une valeur de deux millions d'Ecus au profit de réfugiés et de personnes déplacées dans leur pays en raison de conflits. Cette aide, acheminée par l'intermédiaire de l'Office Humanitaire de la Communauté européenne (ECHO), permettra au Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les Réfugiés de réaliser des actions d'aide alimentaire en Algérie, au Népal, en Thaïlande et au Congo jusqu'à la fin de 1996.

    [05] Éthiopie et Soudan: la Commission approuve une aide alimentaire d'urgence pour un montant de neuf millions d'Ecus

    The European Commission has cleared a package of emergency food aid worth ECU 9 million for Ethiopia and Sudan. The grant, channelled via the European Community Humanitarian Office, will enable the World Food Programme to purchase and distribute maize and sorghum to refugees and displaced people living in the two countries.

    [06] Commissioner van den Broek visits Kazakhstan, Kyrghystan, Mongolia and China

    External relations Commissioner Hans van den Broek will visit Kazakhstan, Kyrghystan, Mongolia and China from 29 August - 3 September 1996. This is the first visit of any Commissioner to Kyrghystan and Mongolia. During his visit Mr van den Broek will discuss both EU´s bilateral relations with these countries and regional cooperation.
