[02] Denktash: EP decision not to influence Turkish positionAccording to Anatolia Agency (13:29 hours, 14.4.99), Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash has said that decisions to be adopted by the European Parliament (EP) will not influence the positions of the pseudostate and Turkey.Denktash met with Jaako Blomberg, the under secretary of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Finnish ambassador to Cyprus and conferred with them for some time. Pointing out that Finland will take over the EU term presiency, Denktash said that activities aimed at clarifying the Turkish Cypriot point of view will continue. Upon being reminded about the draft resolution which the European Parliament is discussing and which envisages pressure on the pseudostate and Turkey, Denktash said that ``such resolutions that are frequently adopted by similar institutions will neither influence the cause nor Turkey´s position.'' The Finnish ambassador said that for the initiatives to find a solution to the Cyprus problem to be successful one should listen to and benefit from the views of both sides. Noting that Finland first felt the need to meet with both sides especially to be able to support the UN initiatives on the issue, the ambassador added that contacts on the issue will continue.
