Cyprus PIO: News Update in English, 02-07-12Cyprus Press and Information Office: News Updates in English Directory - Previous Article - Next ArticleFrom: The Republic of Cyprus Press and Information Office Server at <http://www.pio.gov.cy/>Friday, 12 July 2002CONTENTS[01] Kasoulides on UN Security Council statementAfter the Ministerial Council meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Ioannis Kasoulides made statements on the recent UN Security Council statement [] on the Cyprus problem and replied to press questions.Mr Kasoulides stated that the UN Security Council statement sends the message that the Council is beginning to lose its patience concerning the lack of progress in the efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem, and to this end it clarifies the responsibility of the Turkish side, which, it says, has a less constructive stance. Additionally, it clarifies that the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser to determine the component parts of a comprehensive solution should take into full account the UN Security Council resolutions. To this end, mainly the Turkish side should orientate its views, which obviously are not in line with the UN resolutions". Mr Kasoulides added that the time to find a way out of the stalemate is running out and stressed that the window of opportunity that is offered cannot stay open after October without important and substantial progress on the four core issues of the Cyprus problem. Replying to a press question on how the developments in Turkey influence Cyprus, Mr Kasoulides said: "We study the developments in Turkey with special attention. Temporarily, of course, the political insecurity, the uncertainty and the possibility for early elections being proclaimed, do not help, because they give Mr Denktash the opportunity to hide behind these developments and maintain his intransigence".
