[01] Spokesman calls for British action

The Cyprus government continues to believe that Britain should try and find ways to secure the release of the Greek Cypriot abducted who continues to be illegally detained by the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime in the Turkish- occupied part of Cyprus., Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said yesterday.

"The British are concerned about this case and are making a lot of moves on the diplomatic and political fronts but we continue to regard them responsible and they should try and find ways to secure his immediate release", he said.

Panicos Tziakourmas was abducted from his car within the British military base of Dhekelia by Turkish occupation troops on 12 December.

Britain has said it continues to coordinate efforts in the case with the government and the UN, and believes there are options available which can be considered with regard to any future move.
