[01] Bulgarian Parliamentarians express solidarity with the people of
Cyprus
A delegation of the Council on European Issues of the Bulgarian National
Assembly, headed by its Vice-Chairman Mr. Vassil Gotzev, left Cyprus
yesterday, after a three-day visit to the island.
During their meetings with members of the Cyprus House of Representatives,
Ministers, and other government officials, the Bulgarian parliamentarians
reiterated the readiness and interest of the Bulgarian National Assembly
and of the Council on European Issues to upgrade the existing good
cooperation between Bulgaria and Cyprus at parliamentary level, with
special focus on the two countries' European Union accession course.
The Bulgarian deputies also underlined the National Assembly's solidarity
with the people of Cyprus, in their effort to reach a just and viable
solution to the Cyprus problem in accordance with UN resolutions.
[02] British Members of Parliament welcome resumption of UN sponsored
talks
In an Early Day Motion tabled in the House of Commons on 11 July, British
Members of Parliament welcome the resumption of the Cyprus proximity talks,
which aim at preparing the ground for meaningful and substantive negotiations
leading to a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem, on the basis
of the UN resolutions.
"The House foresees the prospect of a bright and prosperous future for all
Cypriots in an independent, federal, sovereign and territorially integral
Cyprus with basic human rights guaranteed for all, in full membership of
the European Union," the motion states. It also "welcomes the new spirit of
rapprochement between Greece and Turkey and expects that this will have a
positive effect on Cyprus, leading to a comprehensive settlement".
