"The United Nations hopes to discuss dates and location for the resumption of the talks shortly", he added. On his part, Cyprus Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said in his daily briefing yesterday that the government has been sounded out about the convening of the next round of UN-led peace talks in Geneva instead of New York as was scheduled, at the end of June, but nothing concrete has been decided yet on the matter. [02] Cyprus ranks 10th in the "State of the World's Mothers 2000" report"Save the Children", a leading child development and relief organisation, has published its first report to measure the well-being of mothers worldwide, by ranking how their basic needs are met in 106 countries.The report "State of the World's Mothers 2000", compares the status of mothers in 20 industrialized nations and 86 in the developing world, on the basis of a mothers access to medical care, maternal mortality rates, use of contraceptives and family planning, literacy and participation in the government. Cyprus is placed 10th on the list of the top ten countries. According to the report, countries ranking in the top 10 on the Mothers' Index all displayed high scores for women's health and education status. Every country has a female literacy rate over 90 percent and the lifetime risk of a woman dying in childbirth is less than one in 3,000. Infant mortality ranges from four to eight per 1,000 live births, and access to safe drinking water is virtually universal. The 10 top rated countries in which the studies show mothers fare the best are, in order, Norway, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, the United States of America , Netherlands, Britain, Finland, France and Cyprus. The report affirms what research and experience show: When mothers do well, it is far more likely that their children will do well. Similarly, when one group fares poorly, so does the other.
