The talks covered a wide range of issues, including bilateral relations, developments in Algeria and Cyprus, and cooperation within the framework .of the Euro- Mediterranean partnership. During the talks, the common wish of the two governments to develop bilateral relations, especially in the field of economy was ascertained. Mr.Kasoulides was received last Wednesday by Algerian President,Liamine Zeroual,Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia and other officials. The Cypriot Minister returns to Cyprus tomorrow. [02] WEU expresses satisfaction over dialogue with CyprusThe Council of Ministers of the Western European Union (WEU) expressed yesterday its "appreciation on the ongoing dialogue between Cyprus and the WEU, evolving in line with the development of Cyprus' links with the European Union, with which negotiations for accession are continuing". The Ministers also noted the submission of Cyprus'application for Associate Partnership in the WEU. The reference to Cyprus is included in the Rome Declaration, adopted by the WEU Council of Ministers, during their last meeting held in Rome between 16-17 November.[03] Cyprus' EU course can not be hostage to a third countryIn a discussion on the EU pre-accession strategy for candidate countries, held yesterday in Strasbourg, Greek Euro MP Mr. A. Alavanos said that "Cyprus' EU course can not be hostage to a third country" In an intervention before the European Parliament's Plenary Session, Mr. Alavanos stressed that linking a political solution to the Cyprus problem with the country's accession to the EU gives an impetus to Turkey to remain inactive on the Cyprus issue, since it does not favour Cyprus'joining the EU.Speaking on the same subject, Ms A. Karamanou underlined that any attempt to modify the conditions set for Cyprus accession will put at stake the credibility of the EU.
