[01] ISRAELI MINISTER - CYPRUSMinister of Social Affairs and Services of Israel Isaac Herzog will pay an official visit to Cyprus on February 22 and 23.According to the programme of his visit Herzog will arrive to Cyprus on Monday morning. Later on he will have a tete-a-tete meeting in Nicosia with Cypriot Minister of Labour and Social Insurance of the Republic Sotiroula Charalambous. This will be followed by talks between the Cyprus and Israeli Delegations, headed by the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance of Cyprus and the Minister of Social Affairs and Services of Israel and the signing of the Joint Declaration between the Ministry of Social Affairs and Services of Israel and the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance of Cyprus in the areas of social protection and social inclusion After that the Minister will be received by Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and later on he will have a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Kyprianou. In the afternoon he will have a meeting with Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs Averof Neophytou. On Tuesday he will have a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Labour and Social Insurance Andreas Fakontis and later on with Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Crime and on the Fight Against Drugs and Addictive Substances Yiannakis Thoma. He will leave Cyprus in the evening. [02] VASSILIOU - PRIORITIESImprovements in education, research and innovation are needed to help Europe compete globally, to equip the young for today`s job market and to address the consequence of the economic crisis, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth Androulla Vassiliou said on Friday.Speaking during a press conference at the Cyprus EU House, Vassiliou talked about her priorities in her new role as the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth. She expressed belief that education should be a key part of the Commission`s `Europe 2020` strategy. ``We will actively help the 1 out of 6 young people who leave school early, the 1 out of 5 fifteen-year-old teenagers with poor reading skills and 80 million people surviving with only low or basic skills``, she said.
