    Overseas Cypriots meet to discuss issues of concern

    Nicosia, Aug 21 (CNA) -- Some 150 overseas Cypriots will meet here next week to discuss various issues of concern, including the question of Cyprus, coordination with Nicosia, ways to retain the Cypriot identity abroad and closer communication with the island and its people.

    Representatives of the two main overseas organizations, POMAK (World Federation of Overseas Cypriots) and PSEKA (International Coordinating Committee - Justice for Cyprus), led by their respective presidents Haris Sofoklides and Philip Christopher, Greek Alternate Foreign Minister Panayiotis Skandalakis and head of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad Andrew Athens and others will gather from 23-26 August.

    They will be received and briefed by President Tassos Papadopoulos on current developments in Cyprus, who will open the four-day meeting.

    Post Mortem on air crash victims to conclude today

    Nicosia, Aug 21 (CNA) -- Post mortem on the bodies of the victims of last Sunday's air crash, near Athens, that killed all 121 people on board, are to be concluded today.

    Other medical examinations continue to determine whether passengers and crew had inhaled toxic fumes other than carbon monoxide. Results on this are expected in the course of the week.

    Forensic experts are also working to identify those bodies not yet identified by their relatives, with the aid of 133 DNA samples, taken from the next of kin in Cyprus and sent to Athens.

    Coroners working on the bodies of those killed, most of whom Cypriots, have confirmed their initial assessment that the passengers and crew were alive when the aircraft crashed into Grammatikos mountainside, north of Athens.

    Cyprus Airways flight leaves for Egypt

    Nicosia, Aug 21 (CNA) -- A Cyprus Airways aircraft left Larnaca airport today for Sharm El Sheikh, with a stop over in Cairo, to bring back home the dead and injured from this holiday resort, after a fatal road accident.

    Cyprus' Ambassador to Cairo Phaedon Anastasiou, speaking from the hospital where he is with the relatives of the injured, told CNA that the Egyptian authorities responded very quickly and efficiently to the needs of the embassy and the injured.

    Foreign Ministry announces departure of flight to Egypt

    Nicosia, Aug 21 (CNA) -- The Foreign Ministry announced here today that a Cyprus Airways aircraft has left for Sharm El Sheikh, via Cairo, to bring back from this holiday resort the dead and injured following Friday's fatal road accident, in which seven Cypriots were killed and six injured.

    An official press release, issued here today, said this takes place after special arrangements with Cyprus Airways and Health Minister Andreas Gavrielides.

    ''The flight will allow passengers to disembark at Cairo and take on others before it leaves for Sharm El Sheikh to collect the bodies, the injured and their relatives. It will then fly directly back to Larnaca within the day,'' it said.
