Cypriot President: Discussions could help resumption of talks

Brussels, Sep 28 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos believes that his recent meetings in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, could help create the appropriate conditions for a new effort on Cyprus to begin at the appropriate time.

United Nations, Sep 28 (CNA) The UN should lift the so-called embargo on Cyprus' occupied areas, Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul has told Secretary General Kofi Annan, adding that an economic boost to the northern part of the island would assist efforts to reach a settlement.

Borrell says Cyprus solution plan could not have been good

Brussels, Sep 28 (CNA) - President of the European Parliament Josep Borrell said today that the solution that was proposed for a Cyprus settlement could not have been very good, as it was not accepted by the Greek Cypriot community, in the April 24 referendum.

Speaking after a meeting, with Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos, Borrell noted that one should listen to the Cypriots in order to find a solution and reassured that the European Parliament was intensely involved in this effort.
