Cypriot President begins series of meetings in New York

United Nations, Sep 20 (CNA) - President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos began a series of meetings today in New York, with talks with President of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

The talks focused on bilateral issues and the Cyprus problem, which will be discussed later this month at the meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs from Islamic countries.

President Papadopoulos also participated in a heads of state session, organised by Finland and Tanzania, on the social dimension of globalisation. Later on he will participate in a second heads of state session, organised by Brazil, aiming at finding funds and ways to tackle poverty.
