Russia supports continuation of UN mission to Cyprus

Nicosia, Sep 18 (CNA) - Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Fedotov expressed his country's support for the continuation of UN Secretary General's good offices mission to Cyprus, taking into consideration the new circumstances created by the island's accession to the European Union.

Speaking during a meeting with Nicosia Mayor Michalis Zampelas, who is in Moscow for the third international mayors' meeting, Fedotov said the upcoming meeting in New York between Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos and Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov would offer yet another opportunity to study future steps towards solving the Cyprus problem.
