    Discussions on EU regulation could run into October, says Greece

    Athens, Sep 17 (CNA) Greeces Foreign Ministry Spokesman George Koumoutsakos said that discussions on two European Commission Regulations relating to financial aid to the Turkish Cypriots and to direct trade betwen the EU and Cyprus' Turkish occupied areas could be referred to the General Affairs Council on 11 October.

    There is a dynamic to reach consensus on the financial aid regulation but there are still a lot of pending issues, Koumoutsakos noted.

    National Council examines parties' positions on Annan Plan

    Nicosia, Sep 17 (CNA) Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos informed members of the National Council today on the views political party leaders submitted during separate meetings with the President, on a plan drafted by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan for a settlement of the Cyprus problem.

    Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides, reading a statement issued after the meeting, which was chaired by President Papadopoulos and which lasted over three hours, said the discussion will continue at the next session of the Council, when the President returns from trips to New York and Brussels.

    MidEast Rally Championship 2nd round in Cyprus next month

    Nicosia, Set 17 (CNA) - Cyprus will be hosting on October 1 to 3 the Troodos Rally, the second round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship, which is expected to attract the interest of thousands of motor sport fans from Cyprus and abroad.

    The 50 participating crews from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Lebanon, Britain, Germany, Ireland and Cyprus, are called on to cover a newly designed route of 762 kilometres, 224 of which will be gravel special stages.
