MEP says Europe expects Turkey to contribute to Cyprus question

Brussels, Jul 2 (CNA) -- The promotion of Ankara's European aspirations requires the fulfillment of the Copenhagen criteria and the solution of the Cyprus problem, said Rapporteur of the European Union on Turkey, Arie Oostlander.

Cyprus' unemployment rate at 4.3% in May 2003, says Eurostat

Brussels, Jul 2 (CNA) -- Cyprus' unemployment rate stood at 4.3% in May 2003 remaining at the same level as in April. Cyprus holds the best record among acceding countries and the third best among the EU25 as regards unemployment levels.

American Jewish Committee urges Turkey to solve Cyprus problem

Nicosia, Jul 2 (CNA) - The American Jewish Committee has stressed to Ankara that the road to Europe runs through Nicosia and, if Turkey wants to join the European Union, further steps will have to be taken to bring an end to 30 years of an ''unnatural situation'' on the island, Director of Strategic Studies of the American Jewish Committee Barry Jacobs said here today.
