He was commenting on statements by Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Gul that Ankara would pay compensation to Greek Cypriot Titina Loizidou for loss of use of her property in the Turkish occupied areas of the Republic only under certain conditions. Speaking in Porto Carras, Chrysostomides said ''the intentional misleading of Europe by Turkey is obvious'', adding that the European Court of Human Rights, the Council of Europe and the European Union should note the new Turkish affront to the intelligence of the international community. Solberg is followed closely by Finnish Harri Rovanpera in a Peugeot 206 WRC. Rovanpera came first at two of this mornings special stages and is only 10.3 seconds behind leading Solberg. ''The United States remains committed to finding a just and lasting settlement for Cyprus. Serious efforts continued during this reporting period to persuade the two sides on Cyprus to resume negotiations under the auspices of the UN Good Offices Mission for Cyprus on the basis of the UN SG Kofi Annans proposed settlement plan'', Bush states in his letter.
