    by Maria Myles

Athens, Feb 25 (CNA) -- UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has stressed that there is an extraordinary opportunity to solve the Cyprus, noting that if this opportunity is missed it is not clear when another one will reoccur.

Decision time has come, Annan told reporters on his arrival in Athens, from Ankara, adding that perhaps the goal of February 28 set by the UN as the timeframe for a settlement, may slip a few days.

He added that postponing this beyond early March would amount to saying no to EU accession of a reunited Cyprus and stressed that despite the Iraq crisis ''my paramount interest this week is Cyprus''.

Annan also said that he has handed to Greece, Turkey and the two sides on the island ''elements of the changes I intend to propose.''

    By Maria Myles

Speaking on arrival at Athens airport, after a trip to Turkey, Annan said that he will give the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides a preview of his final version of a draft for a comprehensive settlement, which includes changes that he intends to propose on his previous draft for a solution.

The Secretary General said that a few days delay in the agreed timetable would be acceptable but warned that postponement beyond that would doom the prospect of a reunited Cyprus signing the EU treaty of accession in mid April.
