    Nicosia, Feb 25 (CNA) -- US Ambassador to Cyprus, Michael Klosson, has said Iraq must come clean and comply immediately with UN Security Council resolution 1441, stressing if Saddam Hussein complies, there will be no war, otherwise the world will disarm him.''

    New plan should bridge differences, Annan says

    Athens, Feb 25 (CNA) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said the new plan he intends to put forward for a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem should help the parties to move forward and bridge their differences.

    Speaking during a press conference in the Greek capital after talks with Prime Minister Costas Simitis, Annan repeated that the timeframe of 28 February is important and noted that this was a unique opportunity for a solution.

    He said courage and determination were needed to reach a solution, adding he looks forward to meeting Cyprus President-elect Tassos Papadopoulos on Wednesday.

    On his part, Simitis told reporters that the outline of a possible solution is beginning to be formulated, noting the framework which is being placed might not satisfy both sides, but shows the way for stability and a solution.

    He said that Greece and Turkey have exhibited the willingness to make a step forward towards a solution and pointed out the need for the Turkish side to have a constructive attitude.

    In a written statement to the House of Commons, he advocated both sides to go the last mile to conclude negotiations and secure the settlement."

    Straw said the British governments aim remains a comprehensive settlement in time for a reunited Cyprus to accede to the European Union on 16 April.
