Nicosia, Feb 19 (CNA) - Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides today received the UN General Secretary's Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto, with whom he had a working breakfast.

German FM has high hopes of a solution to Cyprus problem

Nicosia, Feb 19 (CNA) -- German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer expressed today high hopes that a solution on the Cyprus problem will be found in the interests of Cyprus and its two communities.

Fischer, who met today in Berlin with Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides also expressed, according to the French News Agency (AFP) the hope that a settlement would be reached before Cyprus joins the the European Union. On his part Kasoulides said the Cyprus government was ready to do its best to reach an agreement.

Christofias calls on Turkey to stop being intransigent

Nicosia, Feb 19 (CNA)--Cyprus House President Demetris Christofias met today in Bratislava with Slovak government and parliamentary officials to whom he underlined the need for a change in the intransigent stance of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash on the Cyprus problem so that a solution to the problem may be reached.
