    Minister: Cyprus too small to be divided, big for all Cypriots

    Nicosia, Feb19 (CNA)--Cyprus is too small to remain divided, but big enough to accommodate both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, the Minister of Communications and Works, Averof Neophytou, has said, adding that at a time when borders in Europe are being abolished, in Cyprus some 200,000 refugees are prevented from returning to their homes by the Turkish occupation forces, in the island's northern areas since 1974 when they invaded.

    Nicosia, Feb 19 (CNA) - The National Council, top advisory body to the President of the Republic on the Cyprus problem, will convene on February 25 to discuss the direct talks between President Glafcos Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou has said.

    Slovakia supports a settlement in Cyprus within the UN framework

    Nicosia, Feb 19 (CNA) - Slovakia has reiterated its support towards a Cyprus settlement within the UN framework, through its National Council Chairman and its Minister of Foreign Affairs, who met yesterday with Cyprus House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias, currently on an official visit to the country.

    Slovak National Council Chairman Jozef Migas reaffirmed his country's support to the reunification of Cyprus and the solution of its political problem, based on UN resolutions.

    Nicosia, Feb 19 (CNÁ)-- A Cyprus parliamentary delegation flies tomorrow to Vienna to attend the winter session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The delegation comprises deputies George Lilikas, Eleni Theocharous and Aristos Crysostomou, who are all permanent members of the House of Representatives to the Assembly.

    Cyprus talks break briefly for reflection

    Nicosia, Feb 19 (CNA) - Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash met this afternoon in Nicosia, within the framework of UN-led direct talks on the Cyprus problem, in the presence of the UN Secretary General's Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto.

    This is the last meeting of the first round of the UN-led talks that break for a brief reflection period and will resume on March 1, with fewer but longer meetings. During this break, the UN Secretary General's Special Adviser on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto will travel to New York to report to the Secretary General and to brief the members of the Security Council.

    Limassol, Feb 19 (CNA) -- The European and World football champions, France, will play against the national team of Cyprus on 7 September 2002 in a Group A match for the qualifying round of the Euro 2004, the final phase of which will be played in Portugal. The return match will be played in Cyprus a year after.

    Representatives of the national teams participating in Group A, namely France, Cyprus, Israel, Slovenia and Malta, met here today and fixed the dates of the games between them.
