[01] House President - Cyprus problem

Nicosia, Aug 19 (CNA) -- House President Demetris Christofias said today that a solution to the Cyprus problem based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation should lead to a unified state and rule out any form of division, secession or integration with another country.

Speaking at a memorial service, for those killed during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, held within the framework of "The Cyprus Week" events in Greece, where he is paying a three-day visit, Christofias said Cyprus will not submit to blackmailing dilemmas in view of its accession to the European Union adding the people of Cyprus will not accept any drafts on a solution that would aim at combining federation and confederation. [02] House President - Cultural heritage

Nicosia, Aug 19 (CNA) -- The international community is duty-bound to help preserve Cyprus' cultural heritage in the occupied by Turkish troops area of Cyprus, House President Demetris Christofias said today.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a photographic exhibition on the destruction of Cyprus' cultural heritage in the occupied areas of the island, held today in Greece where he is paying a three-day visit, Christofias said the House of Representatives has repeatedly brought the issue up in several international fora, "only to gain very little from this effort."
