[01] British High Commissioner - Interview
by Maria Myles Nicosia, Aug 18 (CNA) -- Britain, with closer interests in
Cyprus than other key players in the ongoing peace process, believes that
any negotiated and acceptable settlement the Greek and Turkish Cypriot
sides agree on would be backed by the international community, and
considers a bizonal, bicommunal federation "probably" the best way to
achieve security and prosperity on the island.
In an interview with CNÁ, British High Commissioner Edward Clay said that
conditions for a solution are "better than they have been" and referred to
a deadline which everybody now sees on the horizon that relates to the
anticipated accession of Cyprus to the European Union.
