CNA MM/GP/2001ENDS, CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY1410:CYPPRESS:02[02] Former Government Spokesman diesNicosia, Aug 20 (CNA) -- Miltiades Christodoulou, former government spokesman and very close associate of former President of the Republic the late Archbishop Makarios III, died today at the age of 82.He has been suffering from heart problems, which in the recent past had worsened. He died at home this morning. He was born in August 1919. From June 1965 to July 1981 he was Director of the Press and Information Office and Government Spokesman, serving the late Archbishop and former Cyprus President Spyros Kyprianou. He founded the Cyprus News Agency and served as its Director. During the military coup, in July 1974, which toppled President Makarios, he was arrested. He has written and published many books. He leaves a wife and three children.
