[01] Missing Persons - Court ruling - UN - CMP
by Maria Myles Nicosia, Jul 17 (CNA) --Increasing financial costs for
Turkey could lead Ankara to reconsider its position with regard to the
issue of missing persons, following a European court decision which
recognises that information has been withheld from relatives of missing
persons in Cyprus and which paves the way for scores of applications
against Ankara, President of the Committee of Relatives of Missing Persons
Nicos Theodosiou believes.
Commenting on the court ruling, Theodosiou has told CNA in an interview
that the decision has to be applied as a legal tool. He also said the
ruling leaves the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan exposed in his outlook on
the issue of missing persons, as this is set out in his letter of May 24.
