    [01] Missing Persons - Committee President

    by Maria Myles Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) -- The Committee of Relatives of Missing Persons is pushing for a simultaneous exhumation of remains from mass graves, in the Turkish-occupied northern areas of Cyprus and the government-controlled southern part of the Republic, according to its President Nicos Theodosiou.

    In an interview with CNA, he said he has discussed this matter with US administration officials and suggested that a mass grave in occupied Cyprus, where missing US citizens are believed to be buried along with Greek Cypriot missing, should be opened and at the same time graves of Turkish Cypriots in the government-controlled areas should also be opened.

    Cyprus Foreign Minister - EU - Finland

    Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides flies to Finland today from Luxembourg for an official visit, having participated in the seventh meeting between Cyprus and the European Union, at which the chapter on free movement of persons was provisionally closed, bringing up the number of closed chapters to 22 out of a total of 29.

    While in Luxembourg, Kasoulides received assurances from his Irish counterpart Brian Cowen that Ireland's "no" to the Nice Treaty does not mean renegotiation of the treaty and that EU enlargement will continue without delays.

    Spyros Kyprianou - Health problems

    Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) - Former President of the Cyprus Republic and the House of Representatives, as well as former President of centre-right Democratic Party, Spyros Kyprianou, has been diagnosed with a serious health problem and will start radiotherapy at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre in Nicosia.

    Health Minister Frixos Savvides told CNA that Kyprianou was admitted to the Oncology Centre yesterday with leg movement problems, and was discharged today. CNA/MK/RG/GP/2001

    Cyprus - ETPO Conference

    Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) -- Representatives from 25 countries, the European Group for International Trade Promotion and the International Trade Centre are taking part in the 43rd conference of European Trade Promotion Organisations (ETPO), which started here today to examine ways and means to further promote trade and the role these organisations have to play in the light of globalisation.

    Addressing the conference Cyprus Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Nicos Rolandis said Cyprus is "a small player in the international game of trade", noting that its total trade in goods reached 4,5 million US dollars, and 7 to 8 million dollars if the total of the services sector was added to this amount.

    [05] DISI and KISOS leaders - EU - Goteborg

    Larnaca, Jun 13 (CNA) - The Presidents of right-wing Democratic Rally (DISI) and the Movement of Social Democrats (KISOS), Nicos Anastasiades and Vassos Lyssarides, left today on the same flight for Goteborg, Sweden, where the European Council Summit is to take place on Friday and Saturday.

    Anastasiades will participate at a meeting of the leaders of the European People's Party, while Lyssarides will attend a meeting of the leaders of the European Socialist Party. Both meetings are taking place in view of the EU summit. CNA/MAN/RG/GP/2001

    [06] House President - British High Commissioner

    Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) -- Britain believes it is worth continuing the effort to resume the UN-led peace talks on Cyprus and will continue to support the UN Secretary General in this respect, British High Commissioner Edward Clay said here today.

    Speaking after a courtesy visit to newly elected House President Demetris Christofias, he said Britain's Cyprus special representative Lord David Hannay will be meeting President Glafcos Clerides in London today for what he described as a "personal talk."
