[03] Council of Europe - Turkey - Loizidou case

Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) -- A Greek Cypriot, who has won a human rights violation case against Turkey, has requested the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to take all necessary measures to ensure that Ankara executes a Court judgment pending for nearly three years.

In a letter to the Committee president, Titina Loizidou urges the Committee to take whatever action is necessary to either suspend Turkey's rights of representation or request Ankara to withdraw from the Council, in view of its blatant disregard of the Court decision.

[06] Cyprus President - British official - Meeting

London, Jun 13 (CNA) - Britain's Special Representative for Cyprus Lord David Hannay said today that a change of Foreign Secretary did not mean a change in the government's policy on Cyprus, which has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.

Speaking after a one-hour meeting with Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides, who stopped over in London on his way to Gothenburg, Lord Hannay said the government's foreign policy was defined in the Labour Party's manifesto, which "contains references to everything, including the problem of Cyprus".

[07] Labour Minister - ILO - Labour Conference

Nicosia, Jun 13 (CNA) - Labour and Social Insurance Minister Andreas Moushouttas said today that Cyprus has "long supported international action, along with tripartite cooperation and voluntarism in labour relations", and has ratified "all core Conventions contained in the Declaration of Fundamental Principles, as well as a significant number of other important Conventions".

Addressing the 89th Session of the International Labour Conference taking place in Geneva, Moushouttas said that "International Labour Office (ILO) principle and guidelines have long been adhered in Cyprus and have greatly contributed to the admirable recovery of the economy from the heavy blow it suffered" as a result of the 1974 Turkish invasion and occupation of 37 percent of the island's territory.
