    [01] Cyprus - US - Foreign Ministers - Meeting

    Washington, Mar 29 (CNA) -- The State Department has announced formally a meeting between Secretary of State Colin Powell with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides on 9 April in Washington.

    Making the announcement State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said the main agenda item will be the Cyprus problem and reiterated his administration's support of the UN peace process aiming at finding a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus question.

    [02] Strike - End

    Nicosia, Mar 29 (CNA) -- A 24-hour strike by civil servants, bank employees and workers at the Cyprus Electricity Authority ended here this morning at 0730 (0430 GMT).

    The warning strike was called to protest government plans to introduce a national health scheme.

    [04] Pope - Invitation

    Nicosia, Mar 29 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides has conveyed an invitation to Pope John Paul II to visit Cyprus.

    Cyprus' Ambassador to the Vatican Christos Psilogenis, based in Berlin, is expected to hand over formally the invitation tomorrow.

    [05] New Cyprus Ambassador - Switzerland

    Nicosia, Mar 29 (CNA) -- Rome-based Cyprus Ambassador Alexandros Zenon has also been appointed Cyprus' Ambassador to Switzerland.

    He presented his credentials to Swiss Federation President Moritz Leuenberger, earlier this week at the Federal Palace in Berne. Federal Chancellor Annemarie Huber-Hotz attended the ceremony.

    [07] Cyprus - Norwegian Parliamentary delegation

    Nicosia, Mar 29 (CNA) – Acting Foreign Minister, Finance Minister, Takis Klerides today in Nicosia briefed a delegation of Norway's standing committee of Foreign Affairs on the Cyprus problem and progress achieved so far in the Republic's European Union accession course.

    "We took the opportunity to congratulate Cyprus on the performance. They are adapting very well to the different aquis and we are sure that they will have the ability to close the rest of the chapters," Committee chairman Einar Steensnaes told the press after the meeting.
