[01] Spokesman - UN peace process

Nicosia, Feb 23 (CNA) -- The UN have not expressed any intention to change the current procedure on which the Cyprus peace effort is based, the government believes, but acknowledges that it has some information about attempts to change the UN-led format of proximity talks.

[05] European Socialists - Press conference

Nicosia, Feb 23 (CNA) -- Euro MPs, members of the Socialist Group, have called on Turkey to contribute towards a solution of the Cyprus problem, if it wants its accession course for European Union membership to move one, warning at the same time that Ankara will not move closer to Europe unless it introduces the necessary reforms.

Speaking at a press conference here at the end of a brief visit, they said a solution of the Cyprus question should be based on UN resolutions, something Turkey is well aware of, noting that if it rejects reasonable ideas of the Greek Cypriot side, it will have to assume responsibility for doing so. [06] Spokesman - Turkish Cypriot press reports

Nicosia, Feb 23 (CNA) -- The Cyprus authorities have denied categorically that Turkish Cypriots who tried to enter the southern government controlled areas of the Republic were ill-treated by the police, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou has said.

Police, he added, believe the press reports alleging ill treatment of 26 Turkish Cypriots by the authorities is a staged affair to substantiate their claims that Greek and Turkish Cypriots cannot live together.
