[04] Bicommunal Festival
Nicosia, Sep 10. (CNA) -- Hundreds of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots
of all ages and backgrounds today gathered at the UN-controlled Ledra
Palace hotel in the capital Nicosia to send the message that the two
communities of Cyprus can and should live together, only two days before
the new UN-led round of Cyprus peace talks gets underway in New York.
Ministers, politicians, ordinary men and women, children and teenagers
gathered for the first ever "Festival of Mutual Understanding", organised
by four Greek Cypriot and three Turkish Cypriot parties under the auspices
of the Slovak embassy, taking advantage of the rare occasion they have to
meet, talk and enjoy themselves listening to Greek and Turkish music.
