    [01] Cyprus Rally 2000 - Last leg

    Limassol, Sep 10 (CNA) -- The third and last leg of the Cyprus Rally 2000, comprising six special stages, started this morning with 29 cars running the 88,75 kms. The first and winning car will arrive in the southern coastal town of Limassol in the afternoon.

    Spaniard Carlos Sainz in his Ford continued to lead in yesterday's second leg of the Cyprus Rally, which for the first time is included in the FIA's Word Championship.

    [02] Limassol - Haifa - Twinned

    Limassol, Sep 10 (CNA) -- ิhe southern coastal town of Limassol and the Israeli town of Haifa were twinned last night in a special ceremony during which their Mayors stressed the long-standing close links between Cyprus and Israel.

    Present at the ceremony, which took place at Limassol's City Hall, was outgoing Israeli Ambassador to Cyprus Shemi Tzur who was honoured for his work towards the strengthening of relations between the two Mediterranean ports.

    [03] Cyprus Rally - Statements

    by Riana Magidou Limassol, Sep 10 (CNA) -- The Cyprus Rally's special stages have their own character, Spaniard Carlos Sainz of Ford said today, while continuing his lead in the overall classification of the Cyprus Rally 2000 based in the southern coastal town of Limassol.

    Sainz said that today's third and last leg's special stages of the Cyprus Rally, which for the first time is included in the World Championship, are more accessible and some have less obstacles.

    [04] Outgoing Greek ambassador - Kranidiotis

    Nicosia, Sep 10 (CNA) -- Outgoing Greek ambassador to Cyprus Kyriacos Rodousakis today praised the role played by late Greek Foreign Undersecretary Giannos Kranidiotis in the Cyprus Republic's bid to join the European Union and said the void he left behind is not easy to fill.

    In his last public appearance before his departure from the island this evening, Rodousakis spoke at a church service organised by the Social Democrats Party in memory of Cypriot-born Kranidiotis, who the ambassador described as the person who played an important role towards bringing Athens and Nicosia closer.

    [05] Repatriated Cypriots - First conference

    Nicosia, Sep 10 (CNA) -- The Federation of Repatriated Cypriots organised its first ever conference here today, to discuss problems they face when they return to their homeland such as schooling, social benefits and how the younger generation adapts to a new way of life.

    Presidential Commissioner for overseas Cypriots Manolis Christofides told the delegates that the government will organise such a conference every two years, while on his part the Federation President Kyriacos Tsolakis called on the government to operate cultural centres in countries where many Cypriots live.
