    Nicosia, Aug 22 (CNA) - Acting President of the Republic and House of Representatives President, Spyros Kyprianou, today signed the condolences book for the 118 victims of the Russian submarine "Kursk", which sank to the bed of the Barents Sea.

    Speaking at the Russian Embassy, Kyprianou said he visited Ambassador, Vladimir Pavlinov, today to express the "deep regret" of the Cyprus people and his own "for the great tragedy that struck Russia and the Russian people". CNA/RG/GP/2000

    Government Spokesman - Russia - Condolences

    Nicosia, Aug 22 (CNA) - Government Spokesman, Michalis Papapetrou, today expressed the sincere condolences of the Cyprus government and people to the Russian government and the families of the victims of the Russian submarine "Kursk", which sank to the bed of the Barents Sea.

    Speaking during his first briefing, after returning from his Summer holidays, Papapetrou said "on behalf of the government and the whole of the Cyprus people I would like to express sincere condolences for the tragic loss of the 118 crew of the Russian submarine". CNA/MA/RG/GP/2000

    Cyprus Rally - Press Conference

    Nicosia, Aug 22 (CNA) -- For three days Cyprus will be in the world's sporting spotlight, Clerk of the Cyprus Rally 2000 Takis Kyriakides told a press conference here today.

    The Cyprus Rally to be held on 7 - 10 September was included in the World Championship for the first time and according to Kyriakides altogether there are 57 entries with crews from 25 countries.
