CNA/MA/RG/GP/2000 1930:CYPPRESS:06[06] "Avrupa" - International interestNicosia, Jul 12 (CNA) - The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) informed the Union of Cyprus Journalists (UCJ) today that it would be sending a representative to Nicosia to convey the demand of the international journalist family to end the silencing of Turkish Cypriot daily "Avrupa" and to release its journalists, including its Editor-in- Chief, Siener Levent, illegally arrested by the Turkish occupation regime.According to the UCJ, the IFJ's delegate will try to meet with the "detainees" in the Turkish- occupied areas of the Republic, to visit the offices of "Avrupa" and make representations to Turkish Cypriot leader, Rauf Denktash, and the representatives of the United Nations and the European Union in Cyprus, with an aim to secure the smooth publication of the Turkish Cypriot daily and the release of its journalists.
