    [01] Cyprus Airways - Annual report

    Nicosia, Jul 13 (CNA) - Cyprus Airways, the island's national carrier, recorded pre-tax profits of 8,8 million pounds (1 CY pound = 2 US dollars) in 1999, compared to 10 million in 1998.

    Speaking yesterday afternoon at the 53rd Annual General Assembly of the airline, Cyprus Airways Chairman, Charis Loizides, said profits included an extraordinary income of 4,6 million pounds from the sale of international communications company "Equant NV" shares at the New York Stock Exchange.

    Nicosia, Jul 13 (CNA) -- According to the Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport, the weather forecast for Cyprus is:

    Friday and Saturday: 14/7/2000 to 15/7/2000

    On Friday sunny and hot. The wind light to fresh at times. The temperature between 23C min. and 34C max. Over the coast and between 24C and 40C max. inland. On Saturday persisting sunny but the temperature deacreasing as to fluctuate between 21C min. and 32 max. over the coast and between 22C min. and 37C max. inland.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 16/7/2000 to 17/7/2000

    Continuing sunny with the temperature fluctuating between 21C min. and 32C max. over the coast and between 22C min. and 37C max. inland.

    [03] Loizidou case - Interim resolution

    Nicosia, Jul 13 (CNA) - The Council of Europe's Committee of Deputy Ministers yesterday adopted an interim resolution on the Titina Loizidou case. All members of the Committee, except Turkey, voted in favour of the resolution.

    The Committee, which convened at the level of Permanent Representatives, expresses deep regret and deplores the fact that Turkey has not yet complied with its obligations from the European Court of Human Rights decision to pay compensation to Loizidou, despite the fact that it had plenty of time to do so.

    [04] Religious groups - Festival

    Nicosia, Jul 13 (CNA) - For the first time since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960, the religious groups on the island, namely Maronites, Armenians and Roman Catholics, will host a ten-day Cultural Festival beginning October 16.

    Speaking at a press conference today, Presidential Commissioner for Religious Groups, Manolis Christofides, said that the Republic of Cyprus promotes the rights of these groups, in compliance with the conventions it has signed.

    [05] Cyprus - Tourism - Britain

    Nicosia, July 13 (CNA) -- Some 1.15 million UK visitors visited Cyprus over the last year, of whom over half a million travelled on package holidays, Chief Operating Officer of Thomas Cook UK & Ireland and Managing Director JMC Holidays Simon Vincent, said here today.

    Speaking at a press conference Vincent said in the summer of 1998 the tour organisation carried just over 48.000 customers to Cyprus, while last summer that figure rose to 72.000.
