    [03] Commerce Minister - Slovakia

    Nicosia, Mar 30 - Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister, Nicos Rolandis, met separately yesterday in Slovakia with Economy Minister Lubomir Harach and Finance Minister B. Schmognerova, to discuss issues regarding banking, energy and tourism, as well as the two countries' efforts to join the European Union.

    The two Slovak Ministers expressed their country's support for a just solution to the Cyprus problem, in the context of UN resolutions, and stressed the importance of EU accession negotiations. CNA/RG/ΜΜ/2000

    [04] President Clerides - Putin - Congratulations

    Nicosia, Mar 30 (CNA) - President Glafcos Clerides has sent a telegrammme to the newly-elected President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, congratulating him on his election victory.

    In his message, President Clerides notes his "deep appreciation for the constant support of the Russian Federation to our firm commitment and continuous efforts to find a just and viable solution of the Cyprus problem, in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions". CNA/RG/MM/2000

    [05] President Clerides - Israel

    by Maria Chrysanthou Jerusalem, Mar 30 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides visited today the second biggest air base in Israel and was briefed on recent developments in air war- fare machinery and had the chance to have a close look at an F15 fighter, which only the US and Israel have.

    Speaking to the press, Clerides said he was impressed by his visit to Hatzerim base, while asked about his meetings during his three - day official visit to Israel, he expressed satisfaction pointing out that relations between the two countries are developing. CNA/MCH/RM/MM/2000

    [06] Cyprus - Turkey - European Court - Loizidou case

    Nicosia, Mar 30 (CNA) -- The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE), responsible for the execution of judgements of the European Court of Human Rights, will send a second letter to Turkey calling on the government to comply with a ruling relating to human rights violations in Cyprus.

    The "Loizidou" case is set to be re-examined by the Committee at its next regular meeting in May, when Italy will hold the chair.

    [07] Leukeamia boy - USA - Departure

    Nicosia, Mar 30 (CNA) - The 6-year-old Greek Cypriot boy, Andreas Vassiliou, who stirred humanitarian feelings among Greek and Turkish Cypriots, as well as Greeks and Turks regarding his urgent need for a bone marrow transplant to tackle his leukeamia, will depart for the United States within a couple of days.

    His doctor, Loizos Loizou, said that the boy would be admitted at the M.D. Anderson anti-cancer centre in Houston, Texas, to prepare for a transplant and that the best method for Andreas was to receive bone marrow possibly from a totally compatible placenta or umbilical cord donor.     [08] President Clerides - Patriarch Diodoros

    by Maria Chrysanthou Jerusalem, Mar 30 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides today visited the Patriarch of Jerusalem Diodoros and the two men decorated each other with the highest award of Cyprus and the Patriarchate.

    Patriarch Diodoros said that President Clerides' visit to the Patriarchate is "historic" and wished him strength, health and courage to bring about his difficult task. CNA/MCH/RM/MM/2000
