    by Maria Chrysanthou Jerusalem, Mar 31 (CNA)-- Cyprus has expressed its readiness to host meetings between Israel and its Arab neighbours in a bid to advance the peace process.

    Welcoming the Cypriot position, Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy, who has accepted an invitation to visit Cyprus, said he would be delighted if Cyprus were to host meetings between Israel and Lebanon.

    [02] President Clerides - Chairman Arafat

    by Maria Chrysanthou Ramallah, Mar 31 (CNA) -- Chairman Yasser Arafat welcomed here today at his office President Glafcos Clerides with full honours, as a band played the national anthems of the Republic of Cyprus and the Palestinian Autonomous Territories and a guard of honour was inspected by the two leaders.

    President Clerides wished Arafat and his people "prosperity, progress, peace and security" and in reply the Palestinian leader said "I will not forget your continuous support to my people under difficult circumstances."

    [03] Defence Levy - House

    Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) -- The Cyprus Parliamet voted Thursday night by a narrow margin, to reduce by one per cent the defence levy Cypriots have been paying to the defence fund.

    The amendment, proposed by the main opposition AKEL party, which takes effect as of tomorrow, stipulates that the defence levy will drop to two per cent for most people and three per cent for companies.

    [04] Cypriot Galleries - Metropolitan Museum

    by Maria Myles Nicosia, Mar 31 (CNA) -- More than 600 Cypriot antiquities, stored in the vaults of the New York Metropolitan Museum, will be exhibited in a public display as of 4 April in four halls, the Cypriot Galleries, which President Glafcos Clerides will inaugurate.

    In an interview with CNA, the President, stressing the great importance of this event, pointed out that "our antiquities and civilisation are our ambassadors abroad. This exhibition promotes Cypriot culture and tourism and its importance is self-evident."
