[01] US President - Cyprus question - British councillor
Nicosia, Dec 30 (CNA) -- US President Bill Clinton has assured he will do
everything he can to seize the opportunities for progress in efforts to
settle the Cyprus problem arising from the peace talks that began between
the two sides.
Responding to a letter from Conservative party Councillor Kanti Patel
of the London Borough of Barnet on the protracted Cyprus question, the US
President describes it as "an important priority" for his administration.

Nicosia, Dec 30 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides today briefed
party leaders on the latest developments in the Cyprus question, in their
first meeting after the talks that took place in New York, while Foreign
Minister Ioannis Kasoulides informed them on the outcome of the European
Union Helsinki summit.
Speaking to reporters after the two-hour meeting of the National
Council, top advisory body to the President on the Cyprus issue, Government
Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said the body will convene again on January 4
so that party leaders can submit their views.
