[01] British envoy - Cyprus peace talks

London, Dec 23 (CNA) -- Britain's special envoy for Cyprus Sir David
Hannay has described the first round of proximity talks as "the beginning
of a serious sustained effort", noting "it was very useful and fruitful",
and added that this process is a "realistic one".
In an interview with CNA in London, Sir David said the European Union
summit conclusions in Helsinki are "an extremely important development",
pointing out that now Cyprus, Greece and Turkey are "travelling in the same
destination".

[03] Israel - Relations - Cyprus - Turkey - Visits

Nicosia, Dec 23 (CNA) -- Relations between Israel and Cyprus will
enter a new era in the new year with the visits of President Glafcos
Clerides and House President Spyros Kyprianou to Israel and the visits to
Cyprus of Israeli ministers and other high-ranking officials.
Israeli Ambassador to Cyprus, Shemi Tzur, told CNA during a visit
today to the agency that Cyprus could still play host to the Israeli-Syrian
peace talks after the initial start of the negotiations.
