    [01] Parliament President - Letter - Turkey - Nuclear reactors

    Nicosia, Dec 2 (CNA) -- House of Representatives President Spyros Kyprianou has called on his counterparts to exert their influence so that Turkey abandons its decision to construct two nuclear reactors in the Akkuyu area, on the country's south coast, as they would pose a "very real and grave threat".

    Kyprianou sent the letter to his counterparts of European Union member states and Mediterranean nations as well as the presidents of international parliamentary organisations and the European Parliament

    [02] Cyprus Stock Exchange - Transactions - Decision

    Nicosia, Dec 2 (CNA) -- The Board of Directors of the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) announced today its decision to suspend transactions for three days, from December 6 to 8.

    According to a CSE press release, the decision was taken during a Board meeting this afternoon in view of the introduction of a new system of transactions.

    [03] Cyprus - Convention - Human Rights

    Nicosia, Dec 2 (CNA) -- Cyprus today signed Protocol 7 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, which guarantees the right of aliens to procedural guarantees in the event of expulsion from the territory of a state and the right of a convicted person to have his sentence reviewed by a higher court.

    It also guarantees the right to compensation in the event of miscarriage of justice, the right not to be tried or punished in criminal proceedings for an offence for which one has already been acquitted or convicted and equality of rights and responsibilities of spouses.

    [04] Kyprianou - Released from Hospital

    Nicosia, Dec 2 (CNA) -- Acting President, House of Representatives President Spyros Kyprianou was released from the Nicosia General Hospital today after undergoing a 10-day therapy in the Intensive Care Unit.

    President Kyprianou was treated for acute onchronic bronchitis.

    [05] EU Presidency - Greece - Cyprus

    Athens, Dec 2 (CNA) -- No third party could impede the chance of Cyprus' accession to the European Union, warned here today Finnish Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen, whose country is current President of the EU.

    He told the press after meeting his Greek counterpart Costas Simitis that "we all agree that this is something between Cyprus and the EU and that a third party would not impede the chance of Cyprus accession."
