[01] Clerides - Arrival - Statements
New York, Dec 2 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides pledged the
Greek Cypriot's side good intention to make use of the international
interest in Cyprus.
Speaking on his arrival yesterday in New York where UN-led proximity
talks are scheduled to start Friday, Clerides expressed the hope that the
Turkish Cypriot side will exhibit the same political will for a solution to
the Cyprus problem.

[02] Cyprus Defence Minister - Moscow
Larnaca, Dec 2 (CNA) -- Cyprus and Russia maintain close and friendly
relations, said Cyprus Defence Minister Socrates Hasikos before departing
for Moscow today for a four-day visit at the invitation of his Russian
counterpart, Igor Sergeyev.
During his stray in Moscow Hasikos will sign a protocol which will
supplement the existing 1996 agreement between the two countries.

[03] UN Secretary-General - Report - UNFICYP - Security Council
New York, Dec 2 (CNA) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan revealed that
there has been a violation by the Turkish side of the status quo of the
fenced area of Famagusta.
In his report to the Security Council on the renewal of the mandate of
the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus (UNFICYP) Annan refers to
tomorrow's scheduled start of the UN-led proximity talks between President
Glafcos Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash noting they will
"prepare the ground for meaningful negotiations leading to a
comprehensive settlement".
