[01] Former Greek Premier - Cyprus question

    by Maria Chrysanthou

Athens, Nov 21 (CNA) -- Former Greek Prime Minister and honourary President of the New Democracy Party Constantinos Mitsotakis believes there are now more prospects to settle the Cyprus problem then there have been "in a long time".

Talking to the press after a working breakfast with Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides in Athens today, Mitsotakis said that "apart from the US factor which has played and continues to play a major role, what is especially important today is Europe's role."

    by Maria Chrysanthou

Athens, Nov 21 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides will step up preparations for the UN sponsored proximity talks, to begin in New York on December 3, and will focus on the four chapters that will be discussed, as set out by the UN chief, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said today.

Speaking to Cypriot reporters in Athens, the spokesman refrained from elaborating but said that on his return to the island tomorrow the President will brief all political party leaders on his meetings in both Greece and Turkey.
