[01] Clinton - Simitis - Statements
Athens, Nov 20 (CNA) -- US President Bill Clinton and Greek Premier Costas
Simitis today said the proximity talks between the Greek Cypriot and
Turkish Cypriot sides beginning in the US December 3rd must lead to a
substantial discussion to settle the Cyprus problem.
Speaking to the press after two-hour-long talks in the Greek capital,
both leaders underlined the need for improvement in Greco-Turkish relations,
while the American President said a bright future cannot be achieved if the
Cyprus question is not settled.
The two leaders said their talks focused on bilateral relations, Greco-
Turkish relations, Greece's role in the Balkan region and the Cyprus
question.
