[01] Cyprus ambassador - Portugal
Nicosia, Nov 3 (CNA) -- Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio has expressed
his country's support to the Cyprus Republic's European Union (EU)
accession course and said he will back it during December's summit in
Helsinki, Finland.
According to an official announcement issued today, in a meeting after
accepting the credentials of Cyprus' ambassador to Portugal Thalia Petrides,
Sampaio also referred to the good course of the island's economy.

[02] Spokesman - British Bases
Nicosia, Nov 3 (CNA) -- Cyprus and the UK are set to sign a memorandum of
understanding concerning the training of British military, stationed on two
bases Britain has retained on the island prior to granting Cyprus its
independence.
"The cabinet authorised today Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides to
sign with UK representatives the memorandum allowing British soldiers to
use an alternative firing range for nine days annually in August,"
Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today after this
morning's cabinet meeting.

[03] Missing - Results - Committee
Nicosia, Nov 3 (CNA) -- The Committee of relatives of missing persons
welcomed today the outcome of painstaking scientific examination of exhumed
remains which have established the fate of one of the persons listed as
missing since the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus.
The Committee also said the result, the first to be announced since
exhumations started in the summer, brings to the forefront the need for the
Turkish side to carry out exhumations in the Turkish occupied part of the
island.

[04] Spokesman - Clerides - Simitis
Nicosia, Nov 3 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides and Greek Prime Minister
Costas Simitis are scheduled to meet on 20 November in Athens, Government
Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou announced here today.
He also said Greece's Foreign Minister George Papandreou will visit
Cyprus but no firm date has been fixed for the visit as yet.

[05] Excavations - Medieval Sugar Mill of Kolossi
Nicosia, Nov 3 (CNA) -- Important remains of the medieval era were found in
the medieval sugar mill of Kolossi in the Limassol district, after the
completion of archaeological excavations in the area which took place
between 8-15 September.
The excavations concentrated at the area between the vaulted building
of the refinery and the building of the mill.
