[01] President Clerides - Honourary Doctorate - Cyprus issue

    by Emilis Christofi

New York, Sep 25 -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides said the side which refuses to follow the views of the international community on Cyprus should face the consequences and said the resumption of peace talks for a settlement on the island greatly depends on the exertion of pressure.

Speaking yesterday during a ceremony in New Jersey where he was awarded with an Honourary Doctorate of Humane Letters by the

School of Diplomacy and International Relations of Seton Hall University, Clerides reiterated his willingness to participate in

negotiations for a settlement in Cyprus.

[02] Greek Foreign Minister - Cyprus question

    by Emilia Christofi

New York, Sep 25 Ä The views of the Turkish side on the Cyprus question remain unaltered and completely different to those of the Greek side, Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou said here Friday after meeting his Turkish counterpart Ismail Cem.

Asked whether the Cyprus question was raised at the meeting, Papandreou said "the issue was not discussed in detail" but pointed out that the "positions of both sides are different and we certainly can see this."
