    [05] Cyprus - EU - Illegal university

Nicosia, Sep 3 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government will continue to make representations regarding the European Union financial assistance to the so- called university of "Eastern Mediterranean" in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus.

[06] Cyprus government - Israeli police

Nicosia, Sep 3 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has given permission to a limited number of Israeli policemen to offer protection to their national football team, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said today.

The Israeli team arrived last night to play against the Cyprus side on Sunday night, at Tsirion Stadium in the southern coastal town of Limassol, in a qualifying group six match for the Euro 2000 finals to be held in Belgium and Holland.

Papapetrou told his daily briefing that the Cyprus police would carry out their duties to the full offering the Israelis security, but said the Israeli government often asks for such permission when its athletes travel abroad.

Elaborating on the decision the Spokesman said the government took into consideration "the Israeli government and state sensitivity over the protection of their athletes, especially after the murder of Israeli athletes during the Olympic Games held in Munich."
