1545:CYPPRESS:01[01] Cyprus government - Allegations - OcalanNicosia, Jun 2 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government today categorically dismissed reports in the Turkish media claiming that Kurdish rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan supported that Nicosia helped the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK)."The Cyprus Republic is innocent of any accusation Mr Ocalan is reported to have made," Government Spokesman Costas Serezis said. The Turkish media reported that during the second day of his trial yesterday, the Kurdish rebel claimed the PKK received help from Cyprus and the country's Orthodox Church. Earlier today the Primate of the Church, Archbishop Chrysostomos also dismissed the claims and expressed surprise with the reports "because nothing of the kind had ever happened". Replying to questions, the Government Spokesman said that "Ocalan's reported allegations may be related to possible activity by individuals." CNA MA/MM/1999ENDS, CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY1725:CYPPRESS:04[04] UNFICYP financing - Draft resolutionNicosia, Jun 2 (CNA) -- A UN Committee has approved a draft resolution on the financing of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) with 54.6 million dollars for the period 1 July 1999 until 30 June 2000.The sum was approved by the Fifth Committee of the UN on May 27 following informal consultations in order to enable UNFICYP "to fulfill its responsibilities," according to Security Council resolutions. The UNFICYP draft resolution is expected to be approved along with those for other peacekeeping missions towards the end of June, at the General Assembly. The draft resolution "requests the Secretary-General to take all necessary action to ensure that the Force is administered with a maximum of efficiency and economy." It also urges all states with overdue payments towards peacekeeping activities to make every possible effort to pay them in full and on time. CNA MA/MM/1999ENDS, CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY2010:CYPPRESS:06[06] Foreign Minister - ExhumationsNicosia, Jun 2 (CNA) -- Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides paid a visit today to one of two cemeteries where the process of exhumations for the remains of war dead of the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus has begun.A local priest said prayers at the cemetery and afterwards the minister was briefed by the head of the team of experts, carrying out the exhumations, William Haglund, of the non-profit organisation "Physicians for Human Rights." Later on, the minister visited the scientific laboratory where examination of the remains will take place. Speaking to the press, Haglund said screening work continued today but had little else to announce. "We are doing that very carefully and are looking for any little thing, " he said. The American professor said more experts are due in Cyprus next week, and that will bring their numbers to 20.
