BANJALUKA - The President of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic talked
in Banjaluka with the special representative of the European Bank for
Reconstruction and Development, Pole Monory, about the Bank's activities in
regard to the reconstruction and development of RS and the Federation of
B&H (FB&H). A communique issued by the RS presidential cabinet says that
during the meting they gave most of their attention to the restoration of
infrastructure and the development of private sector. The European Bank
approved a loan for the restoration of the infrastructure in the entities,
which has not been yet realised because the Parliamentary Assembly of B&H
has yet to verify a contract on loan, says the communique. Further, the non-
functioning of the joint institutions of B&H impedes the influx of the
foreign capital.
SARAJEVO - The speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (RS),
Dragan Kalinic, and the prime minister and the vicepremier, Gojko Klickovic
and Aleksa Buha, respectively, continued the talks in Pale with a
delegation of the German firm 'Siemens', led by director for the Middle
Europe, Wolfgang Hiertzi, reports the RS Ministry of Information. The
representatives of Republika Srpska and the Siemens firm are discussing
different forms of engagement of this giant in the field of telecommunications,
communications, medical equipment and the building of medical facilities.
The building of a hydroelectric power plant, the reconstruction of the oil
refineries in Sanski Brod and Modrica and telecommunication system and
touristic facilities in RS, are also on the agenda.
BANJALUKA - The vice-premier of Republika Srpska and minister of science
and culture, Velibor Ostojic, announced that councils for science and
culture are to be formed at the Government with a view to preparing a
unique programme for the development of science, culture and education in
the Serb lands. During the talks with directors of the cultural
institutions in Banjaluka, Ostojic pointed out that cultural manifestations
in regard to the famous authors of the Serbian literature such as Petar
Kocic, Branko Copic, Ivo Andric, Aleksa Santic and Jovan Ducic, are to be
organised in RS.
KOTOR VAROS - After the war, the political and military leadership of
Republika Srpska is determined to the building of a contemporary and modern
army to be capable of defending Republika Srpska and its people even in the
situation of disturbed military balance, stated Vojin Ubiparip, a commander
of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) Garrison in Kotor Varos. As he said,
a modern, organisational and formational structure of the army was
established in RS. One of its main goals is a professionalisation of a
series of formational duties which are the basis for unity and
subordination on which all of the modern armies are founded.
